Does My Sacrifice Live?
This is the question that
comes to mind in the life of one -in- a-million
people (Christians) all over the world. I guess the
reason why it is not and have never been a question is that we never knew we are a sacrifice that has sacrifices to make.
First of all, let’s talk
about SACRIFICE in its real meaning. The word
SACRIFICE according to the dictionary means – the killing of an animal or
person or giving up a possession as an offering to a god or goddess OR an act of giving up something valued for
the sake of something else.
Now, SACRIFICE in its
simple from really means GIVING FOR THE SAKE OF GETTING. I will like to sight
this example to really give a picture of what I mean.
“A man who could barely
walk and has one hand
amputated, left with only the other hand has to feed himself with a plate of
food and at the same time drink from a cup of water. It is very evident that in
order for the man to complete the process, he has to give up the plate of
food in order to get the
cup of water at intervals”
This is the same process
applicable to the term SACRIFICE. We have to give up in order to get (one or
many) thing.
Salient information we
should know and put to mind is that WE ARE A SACRIFICE. HOW?
Looking at the Old Testament times in the book of Genesis 15:9- “The Lord told him, bring me a three-year-old
heifer, a three-year-old female goat, a three-year-old ram, a turtle dove and a young pigeon…..” (NIV)
Sacrifices were given in
order to get something from God i.e. in a way of preparing the platform of receiving the
particular gift or blessing or forgiveness of sins. It got to a time when the consumption of these animals
was beyond the norm. God taught to Himself to put a permanent and a more everlasting end to the killing of animals for the sake of sacrifices. He needed a sacrifice that
even though would die in exchange for other lives to live, beyond the physical
still lives to perform one important duty which is “Atonement for Our Sins” continually not that we should continue to sin but
that we might be completely cleansed by His blood that was shed on the Cross of
Calvary even in conscience so that we would not go back to it again.
So Jesus (the prince of
peace) surrendered His life so that another one which you and I can live because we would have been sacrificing that which
perishes if we never had Him. He died so that we might have life and have it more abundantly (John
10:10).
Finally, we became a
sacrifice through the work that God did(All He gave up to get us in place of
abundance, peace, wealth, health, honour, glory, dominion etc. that we enjoy
today) in the very beginning of time.
God through His infinite
mercy sacrificed Jesus so that we also whose lives were supposed to
be dead are now
alive to (Living sacrifice in Romans 12:1-2) give up those things that kills us
daily. The more we give into these things (whatever we do wrongly against God), the living part of our lives i.e. sacrificial
continues to die in readiness for eternal doom.
Considering all these – Ask
yourself again, does my SACRIFICE live? YES! HOW DO I KNOW?
It’s simple, just ask
yourself this question, how much have I been able to let go for the sake of the
one who first died for me (Jesus Christ), because He died that I might live in His
position (A living Sacrifice for humanity) just kike Himself.
The worth of what you have
been able to give up for the sake of getting hold of that for which Christ
first got hold of you is what really determines whether your sacrifice (The Nature of Christ in
you) still lives.
Once you know that you have
search yourself and have gotten hold of the fact that your sacrifice still
lives, then use the
following verses to strengthened yourself and find more footing for your live
in the Word of God.
