God's Acceptable Service - 1

Romans 12:11c "Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor,  serving the Lord" There are basic principles of service as established by God and he expects anyone and everyone who is to work with Him and for Him to be careful to abide by them. Every organisation or workplace where service is offered has a particular way by which every service is rendered. Doing anything outside the details that come along with every task is no service. The elites call it the "Code of Ethics" - this  document outlines the mission and values of the business or organization, how professionals are supposed to approach problems, the  ethical  principles based on the organization's core values and the standards to which the professional is held. The statement above implies that whatever is done without the "Code of Ethics" in view is no acceptable service and mostly has consequences. Quickly lets see an example from the bible of a man who serves or work...

5 Things that Cause us to Drift Spiritually

5 Things That Cause Us to Drift Spiritually by Chris Russell Several years ago a friend of mine took his wife and kids to the ocean for a week of R&R. While they were there, they purchased a small, inflatable boat for recreational use on the beach. One day the wife jumped in the boat and launched out into the water to just lie back and soak in some sunshine. After what seemed like a short span of time, she opened her eyes and realized that she was several hundred yards away from the shore. In a panic, she screamed for help. Only one person on the shore seemed to hear her call, and that was her husband. When he realized her predicament, he immediately attempted to swim out to rescue her. That did not turn out well, because he was soon in need of being rescued as well! Fortunately the lifeguard was doing his job well that day, and he was successful in rescuing the husband and the wife. By the time he was able to get to the wife in the raft, they were nearly a half mile f...

Six Characteristics for a Potential Spouse

What to look for as you contemplate marriage... by Dennis Rainey I am often asked, "What should a single person look for in a potential spouse?" Singles want to know...and parents want to know so they can pass the information on to the children. So I finally came up with the following list: A woman should seek a man who… Fears God. Some of the ways you can tell if a young man fears God is by his language and how he treats other people. Does he treat them with respect? If not, why not? We as human beings are made in the image of God, and respecting people ultimately shows a heart that reverences the One whom we reflect. Is not afraid to love. That may sound like a no-brainer, but a lot of young men today are afraid of commitment, and the young lady ends up chasing the young man. What we need today are more young men who are not afraid of being real, authentic, and committed to a young lady in a relationship. We need men who ...

Choosing a Life Partner

The biggest decision you'll make outside of choosing to accept Jesus Christ as Savior. by Ron Mehl Choosing a life partner is the biggest decision you'll make outside of choosing to accept Jesus Christ as Savior. I've met with scores of couples for premarital counseling through the years. And one of the first points I try to get across to them is that "desire" does not equal love. Desire may be illustrated by a young person who tells you they can't live without you, that they're miserable, and that life seems colorless and empty when you're not around. That may be a form of love, but it's not the sort of love that will hold a marriage together through the years. While they may feel they "need" you today, it's possible that five months from now you'll no longer meet their "need," and they'll find that they "need" someone else. What I tell these young couples i...

Shapened in Wrong Hands

There are many shapes in this world used for many purposes but the specific ones are quite more in number. The architectural design of life is a very wonderful mental picture of the different kinds of shapes that is made but it is saddening that these days, you find lives that looks formless. Recounting from the day of our primary education, we know shapes to be drawings of many editable sides and angles (square, cube, cuboid, triangle, prism) and each with its uniqueness. This determines to a large extent where it can be used, who uses it, and how it can be used, who likes it and how acceptable it could be at different times. The focus of this short piece speaks of the shape analogy which applies to all lives on earth. All lives were made and shaped by God a long time before our existence and is still being shaped till we finish our tasks here on earth. God the creator of all things had made us the most complex and inspiring creature on earth with specific purposes but...

Does My Sacrifice Live?

Image
This is the question that comes to mind in the life of one -in- a-million people (Christians) all over the world. I guess the reason why it is not and have never been a question is that we never knew we are a sacrifice that has sacrifices to make. First of all, let’s talk about SACRIFICE in its real meaning. The word SACRIFICE according to the dictionary means – the killing of an animal or person or giving up a possession as an offering to a god or goddess OR an act of givi ng up something valued for the sake of something else. Now, SACRIFICE in its simple from really means GIVING FOR THE SAKE OF GETTING. I will like to sight this example to really give a picture of what I mean. “A man who could barely walk and has one hand amputated, left with only the other hand has to feed himself with a plate of food and at the same time drink from a cup of water. It is very evident that in order for the man to complete the process, he has to give up the plate of food in ...
